NEWS: "Verity" gets a new release date - October 2nd, 2026!

From Deadline:  Amazon MGM Studios‘ big feature take of Colleen Hoover‘s Verity from Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett is now opening on October 2, 2026. It had been set for May 15 next year.

The first weekend in October has been a rich launch pad for femme thriller movies, particularly those based on bestsellers, i.e. 2014’s Gone Girl ($37.5M) and 2016’s The Girl on the Train ($24.5M opening).

Verity will face off with Warner Bros’ untitled Tom Cruise movie from Alejandro G. Iňárritu.

“We had a really fantastic time,” Josh gushed of filming, noting he signed on to the project because of Anne’s involvement. “Annie and I talked about working together before and when this came along—she’s producing it—and they sent it to me, I was like, ‘Yeah of course, I really want to work with you.’”

As for Dakota—who plays another one of Josh’s love interests in the film—he added, “She’s fantastic.”

New Information on "Verity" at the 2025 CinemaCon

Things are not always as they seem.

That’s the hazy reality of “Verity,” an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s literary sensation, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. Amazon MGM debuted the sizzling first trailer at CinemaCon on Wednesday night as part of the studio’s presentation to theater owners.

Described as a “gothic, psychosexual thriller,” the story revolves around famed author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who gets badly injured after a devastating car accident. Her thriller novel that’s soon due is about to go unfinished, so her husband Jeremy (Hartnett) offers a struggling writer named Lowen (Johnson) a huge sum of money to complete the remaining books in the series. Lowen accepts the job but uncovers a dark secret in the process — an unfinished manuscript that hints at chilling admissions about Verity and her family’s past. As Lowen reads the draft, she has to determine whether Verity is a gifted fictionist or a deranged psychopath.

The twisty trailer, which hasn’t been revealed to the public, opens in the past as Verity and Jeremy meet for the first time, at a bar. He approaches his future wife, who is wearing a striking red dress, and tells her: “You’ve had three drinks in 45 minutes. If you keep going, I’ll feel uncomfortable asking you to leave with me.”
