Q: You've worked on lots of amazing movies, was it daunting to work on a film like Fifty Shades of Grey?
Mark Bridges: I think there was some concern on my part to honour the fans and phenomenon of the book's popularity, but mostly I wanted to serve the material and fulfill Sam's vision as a director.
Q: How was it working with Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson?
Mark Bridges: A delight! We all put our heads together and had a great back and forth creating these well known characters. They were always professional, always fun, always committed to the work.
Q: Who or what were your influences for Christian (Jamie Dornan), Ana (Dakota Johnson), and Mia (Rita Ora)?
Mark Bridges: For Christian it was international heart throbs like David Beckham and David Gandy, men of immense personal style, making whatever they wear look effortless. Ana was inspired by my desire to make her look like a real person, but the best possible version of reality. The character of Mia was just about what seems fashion forward and fun for the short scene she appears in the film.
Q: How long did you have to do all of the research and prepare the costumes?
Mark Bridges: I think I was given eight or nine weeks out from shooting so we had a nice long prep for Ana but it was crunch time when Jamie replaced the actor who was originally set to play Christian. I think I had four weeks for Jamie. We also work constantly during filming to continue to prepare upcoming scenes and actors who are coming into town to start work.
