PREVIEW INTERVIEW

What's it like to be born famous, with a movie star father, mother, and grandmother? What's it like to walk down the street and be photographed by paparazzi at any moment? And what about seeing your outfit of the day become a global trend? Actress Dakota Johnson knows the answers to these questions well – and played with the idea of overexposure in the cover shoot for Volume 21 of ELLE, which has just been released.

In Los Angeles, under the California sun, Dakota posed for photographer Gleeson Paulino like a star living under constant camera surveillance. In a chat with culture editor Bruna Bittencourt, however, she showed that she's pursuing a path completely different from the 24/7 spotlight. The actress, who became known to the general public for starring in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, based on the books by E. L. James, says she doesn't feel famous. Less about the hype and more about work, Dakota prefers to invest her energy in projects like her film production company and her book club. In the interview, she reminisced about her childhood, accompanying her parents on film sets, and also shared what it was like working with Pedro Pascal on "Materialists," currently showing in theaters.

In addition to 18 pages featuring Dakota Johnson, the new print edition of ELLE is packed with fashion and beauty trends, tips from the best exhibitions, and interviews with insiders. Check out some highlights:

The actress was in Brazilian theaters until last month with "Materialists" directed by Celine Song. While that film was still in theaters, another one starring her arrived: "Apart Loves," directed by Michael Angelo Covino. The film, in fact, bears her signature as a producer. "Producing keeps me very busy and entertained. I like to be more involved in the films I make. I have a love-hate relationship with acting, but I think that's common for any artist."

"I've always wanted to act in movies. I grew up on sets, watching my parents." Filming around the world took her to London and Spain. "As a child, I got to experience many places, people, and cultures. It shaped me." She says that growing up behind the scenes of films didn't prepare her for the current film industry: "I think Hollywood is very different nowadays, especially with social media and the internet."
