Kate Young on What It Takes to Get Met Gala Ready for "Vogue"

Celebrity stylist and Vogue.com contributor Kate Young has a client list that reads like a who’s who of stylish Hollywood women. With Selena Gomez, Dakota Johnson, and Hailey Benton Gates on her roster, she certainly had her hands full this past Monday at the Met Gala. Here Young she shares her personal photo diary of the night.

"At this point, I ran across the street to the Carlyle Hotel to see my best friend Victor [Glemaud] because he works with H&M on their Met [looks]. We had a salad, a little chat, and then I headed down to Dakota. We had coffee from La Colombe on her huge terrace and made our plan for the night."

"I love jewelry and am obsessed with archive pieces. At Cartier, I saw Edward [Barsamian] because I was dead late, which made the whole thing more fun. I chose jewelry for Dakota, Hailey [Benton Gates], and myself and got to see Elton John’s crazy diamond brooch, Liz Taylor’s cuff, and something from the Duchess of Windsor’s estate. It really doesn’t get any better. And at the Carlyle Hotel, it’s basically heaven."

"Three weeks before the gala, I flew out to Los Angeles for the day and fit toiles. Alessandro [Michele] was in Los Angeles to shoot his ad campaign, so Dakota and I went to his room, talked to him, and tried on dresses. It felt weird, goth, and Comme des Garçons, but also sexy, dramatic, and Met-appropriate. It was the best kind of fitting. We tried it on again on Sunday before the Met to check the alterations, to confirm the jewelry, and to show Alessandro."
