New Information about Suspiria shared by Tilda Swinton

From DigitalSpy: Next year she'll [Tilda Swinton] be appearing in Suspiria, a horror remake of Dario Argento's 1977 distinctive Giallo classic about a young ballet dancer who uncovers sinister secrets in a prestigious academy.

Only it's not going to be a remake as such, Tilda Swinton told Digital Spy at the Doctor Strange launch event. It'll be more like a cover version.

"It's a cover. We're not particularly keen on remakes. We made a film which people mistakenly called a remake of La Piscine, called A Bigger Splash. Now the film is out people can see it's not a remake, it's a completely different film," she explained.

Swinton is reuniting with director Luca Guadagnino for Suspiria. She's worked with Luca several times including I Am Love and A Bigger Splash.

This movie has been in development for some years, with David Gordon Green as director and Guadagnino producing. Various actress including Natalie Portman and Isabelle Furhman were tipped for the lead.

The project stumbled though and was resurrected in 2015 with Guadagnino as director.

In Suspiria, Swinton will play Mme Blanc, one of the mysterious heads of the academy, in a story which flirts with rituals, witchcraft and murder. Fifty Shades star Dakota Johnson will appear opposite her as Suzy Bannion, the heroine of the original film, with Mia Goth as her friend Sara and Chloe Grace Moretz in an as-yet unnamed role.

But 40 years after the original, don't expect a redo.

"It's a film that's inspired by Suspiria that loves Dario Argento's film. That's all I can promise you," says Swinton.

Suspiria is currently shooting, and due for a 2017 cinema release.
